is the nvidia geforce g210 any good?
can it run call of duty 4 on medium settings?|||I'm assuming you're referring to an OEM mobile video card as the G210 desktop version isn't available for another month so here are the specs and some information about it...
G210M (mobile)
16 Stream Processors
512MB GDDR3
Core Clock: 625Mhz
Shader Clock: 1.5Ghz
GDDR Clock: 1.6Ghz
Bus Width: 64-bit
Bandwidth: 25.6 GB/s
GFLOPs 72
The good news is this video card is from the newest (40nm) G200 series of mobile processors which supports new features such as DirectX 10.1 and extremely low power consumption, however it is at the lowest of it's series...
If this were the desktop equivalent it would have the processing power of an 8400GS and the bus width of an 8500GT putting it just in between the 2 cards. This would be ideal for watching HD Video, Windows acceleration, and very mild gaming - however it would definitely be a set-back for gaming mostly due to monitor size / res.
In a mobile environment however, you most likely have a smaller screen (with lower res.) and might be able to pull off COD4 on medium settings although it would really be stressing the system depending on what other parts are with it (CPU, RAM speed/amount, etc).
Most notebooks these days don't even include a video card, just really crappy on-board Intel Gfx, so there is something to be said about what you have. If you're concerned, you *might* be able to contact the manufacturer and get an upgraded card. Most laptops are pretty much stuck with the video card they came with because of cooling, although some companies do build a core model with enough cooling for different Video / CPU / Ram configurations for different models.
This is assuming it is a mini-PCIe card that can just be replaced. You should be able to find info on the manufacturer's website, or at least by calling them. If it can be upgraded you may want to look into a GT230M - GTS260M cards are anywhere from 240-550% faster than what you currently have for a reasonable price and can be easily found.
If not, I wouldn't be too concerned - it sounds (based on the information I have...) that you have a fairly high-end notebook and should be ok with the built-in monitor, especially if you have a good amount of RAM and faster Core 2 or i7 processor. I wouldn't however plan on connecting it to a high-res desktop monitor for gaming.
Hope this helps!
Write back w/ a model or details and I might be able to help a bit more...
*Note to the first poster - the G210 is NOT AVAILABLE for desktops yet. This will be the first and only 40nm desktop video card ever made until the G300's are available later this year. The G210 is OEM only and will not be available until mid-late October...
Even if we are talking about a desktop the 4670 is a poor choice for the money, for nearly the same price (or lower) you can purchase a GTX260 or ATI 4850, and for literally $10-20 more you can have the 2nd fastest video card ever made...|||Perhaps on lowest settings, since that card is very underpowered. Any other GPU such as Ati 4670 gives much better gaming performance. If you have the card, get a new one. If you are going to buy a PC with that card, either look for a different one or buy a better GPU with it.
